PROGRAMME OF STUDY

The Institute has adopted Veterinary council of India (VCI) regulations and curricula since its inception for the Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) degree programme and the degree is recognized by the VCI. The College is affiliated to the Pondicherry University.
B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree programme of study is an annual system of education spread over 5 ½ complete professional years including a compulsory internship of one year undertaken after the successful completion of all credits as prescribed in the syllabus. The education curriculum is challenging and enterprising with six-day working week. The institute imparts quality and high standards of Veterinary education.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

A pass in higher secondary or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in Biology/Biotechnology/Botany & Zoology, Physics and Chemistry (40% for OBC/MBC/BCM/EBC/BT/SC/ST) and NEET 2023 qualified (Only for SS(National) & NRI candidates).

AGE LIMIT

The lower age limit is 17 years as on Dec. 31 during the year of admission and no upper age limit.

DISABILITY

A candidate shall not be allowed for admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H degree, if he/she suffers disabilities in Physical Fitness as mentioned in the Veterinary Council of India Regulation, 2016 and listed below: (a) Disability of total body including disability of the chest/spine more than 50% (b) Disability of lower limb more than 50% (c) Disability of upper limb (d) Visually handicapped candidates and those with hearing disability (e) Candidates with progressive diseases like myopathies etc. (f) Disabilities which otherwise would interfere in the performance of the duties of a veterinarian The disability should be certified by a duly constituted and authorized Medical Board comprising of at least three specialists out of which two should be of the specialty concerned and the candidate has to present himself/herself before the Medical Board. The last valid Disability Certificate of the candidate from a Medical Board should not be more than three months old from the date of submitting his/her certificate as a disabled candidate.

INTAKE FOR B.V.SC. & A.H. : 2023-24

The total sanctioned intake for B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree programme for the academic year 2023-24 is 100 (Subject to approval by Pondicherry University). The allocation of number of seats to the various categories and the selection procedure are given below.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

1. Government Quota (Domicils of UT of Puducherry)

There are 47 seats available for the candidates belonging to Union Territory of Puducherry seeking admission under this category to the first year B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree course offered by this Institute.

After obtaining the Provisional allotment order from CENTAC, the candidates should report at RIVER, Puducherry for admission before the date specified in the allotment order. Selection of candidates under this category is from the merit list drawn based on the marks obtained in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology in the qualifying examination. The usual reservation policy as prescribed by the Government of Puducherry will be followed for allocation of seats under this category.

5. Foreign National Candidates

There are 2 seats available for the Foreign National candidates (One who holds a passport/ Citizenship of a country other than India and must not be of Indian Origin) seeking admission under this category to the first year B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree course offered by this Institute. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) / Person of Indian Origin (PIO) having Foreign Passport will not be considered as Foreign National.
Candidates studied in other medium of instruction should produce the proficiency certificate for their skill in reading, writing and speaking English from recognized Institutes.

Selection of candidates under this category is by Veterinary Council of India, New Delhi.
Candidates shall apply online to the Veterinary Council of India, New Delhi at http://aipvt.vci.nic.in/
Selection of candidates under this category is based on the NEET-2023 All India Rank.
After obtaining the Provisional allotment order from VCI, New Delhi, the candidate should report at RIVER, Puducherry for admission before the date specified in the allotment order.

For each extended year of study, the fee applicable to that year of study needs to be paid. *One-time-Non-refundable; **One-time-Refundable; ***Annual-Non-refundable In addition to the total fee, an amount of Rs.540 (or) Rs.890 towards recognition fee, matriculation fee, sports fee, registration fee and University Development fund as specified by the Pondicherry University may be paid as one time fee by all the candidates. Further, examination fee as specified by the Pondicherry University may be paid at the time of every annual examination. The total fee is to be paid as a single instalment for each year of the course. If under any circumstances, the student happens to continue studies at RIVER exceeding the prescribed course duration of 5 ½ years, he/she shall pay the total fee applicable to that year of study till he/she completes the course (subject to a maximum of 9 years from the Date of Registration). Tuition Fee payment [for SS(N), NRI & FN candidates] shall be only through Electronic /Wire Transfer to the Bank account of the Institute throughout the period of study. HOSTEL FEES

Separate hostels are available for boys and girls

Note:If a student discontinues the course completely, only the hostel caution deposit and mess deposit will be refunded, after adjustment, if any.

REFUND OF FEE PAID POLICY FOR UNDER GRADUATE STUDENTS

In the event of an admitted student leaving the course, the following refund of fee policy will be followed.
Situation Refund Policy
1. On request received 15 days before the specified date of closure of admission (or) On request received within 15 days before the specified date of closure of admission and if the seat fallen vacant could be filled 1. Total fee less the admission fee will be refunded (for all categories)
2. On request received within 15 days before the specified date of closure of admission and if the seat remains vacant (or) Discontinuance of course any time after the commencement of the course of study (after the closure of admission) 2. Total fee paid for that academic year will not be refunded. Further, the tuition fee for the remaining years of study has to be paid for discontinuing the course and receipt of all original certificates (for all categories)

The Pondicherry Veterinary College later rechristened as Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAGACOVAS) is now renamed as the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (RIVER). The Pondicherry Veterinary College Society (PVCS) is governed by the Board of Governors.
